Helping You Meet EPC Compliance and Improve Building Efficiency

South Africa is on a mission to reduce carbon emissions and become more energy-efficient and so should your building. With over 80% of the country’s power still generated from coal, the government has made it mandatory for certain buildings to display an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) by 7 December 2025.

That’s where MAC Engineers comes in.

We help building owners assess, improve, and comply with EPC regulations through integrated energy audits, mechanical and electrical upgrades, and sustainable energy solutions like solar and smart systems.

What is an EPC?

  • An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a legal document that provides an official energy rating for your building, ranked from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). It reflects your building’s overall energy usage and outlines recommendations for improvement.

  • Much like a car's fuel rating, an EPC shows how much energy your building consumes, how costly that energy is, and what you can do to reduce your environmental impact.

Who needs an EPC in South Africa?

  • If you own or manage a non-residential building that:

  • Has been operational for more than two years

  • Has a net floor area of 2,000m² or more

  • Is used as an office, retail space, hospitality venue, or educational institution

You are legally required to display a valid EPC by 7 December 2025.

Non-compliance can result in fines of up to R5 million or imprisonment for up to five years.
